Azgard the Car
Azgard is a 1983 Volvo 244 DL. Much beloved, Sometimes maligned, always enduring,
Azgard is far from an ordinary entity
Though used fictitiously in One Right Tricky Bastard, Azgard is a real car. I've owned Azgard since 1994. It has been with me through my first marriage, grad school, A new marriage, A cross-country move, and now raising my kids.
While Azgard does not have all the attributes of the fictional version, It has always been better to me that I have been to it.
Here's but one example of why I say that my guardian angels have moved into Azgard to save time.
It was about 10 something in the morning and I was driving home on Interstate 64. I was coming home from Charlottesville to Harrisonburg . I had been up all night visiting friends. It was foolish of me to try to drive home but I did so anyway.
I fell asleep at the wheel. I don't recall if I was surrounded by traffic when I fell asleep but I certainly was when I awoke.
I was merging into the passing lane. There was one car in front of me, another about a car length and a half behind it. Azgard was pulling into that small opening rather smoothly. Still I pulled back into the right lane. I'm not sure either of the other drivers noticed. I warranted at least a horn blast for that kind of maneuver. Instead, here was silence form the cars around me. There wasn't even a dirty look when the car behind pulled ahead of me closing that gap.
In summation. I fell asleep driving in mid-morning highway traffic yet instead of a horrible wreck I just look like a jerk. That's a decent trade as far as I'm concerned. That's just one example of how I have felt protected while driving Azgard
